INTIMATE LIGHT
Photography Jean-Baptiste Huynh

The Patrick Gutknecht Gallery is pleased to present a selection of some twenty photographs, some of which have never been shown before, by Jean-Baptiste Huynh, including some from his latest series "Flower Children", taken in the Omo Valley in Ethiopia in 2021.  The artist met a people with ancestral practices painting and decorating their bodies in an incredible way and lived several months in total immersion among them.

"A dazzling, moving and inspiring encounter with an ancestral and refined civilization: time does not exist, neither city nor church, the beings are the mirrors of nature.  In front of my eyes, every day, every hour, mysterious and fascinating metamorphoses unfold [...] Original paradise where there is neither mirror nor self-image, nor ego.  The only reflection is that of the other's gaze.  Beauty offered in its purity.

These original photographic prints in color and black and white are presented in dialogue with pieces of decorative arts (furniture, lighting and objects) from the 1920s to today.
