YAKIMONO
Philippe BARDE, Christian GOZENBACH & Toshio MATSUI

Yakimono, literally "fired thing", means "ceramic" in Japanese. Why give a Japanese name to this exhibition? Precisely because this is where the friendship between the three artists began.

In 1998, Christian Gonzenbach met Toshio Matsui in Shigaraki, the international center for ceramics (today directed by the latter).

The following year, it was Philippe Barde who was in Japan, and since then, not a year goes by without Toshio Matsui coming to Switzerland or the three of them meeting elsewhere. This friendship revolves around the arts: ceramics, of course, but also cooking, traveling, and teaching. A boundless curiosity nourishes and influences the practice of the three artists. Although Philippe and Toshio have carried out many projects together, this is the first time that the three artists have exhibited together. - Christian Gonzenbach
