Phoenix Ancient Art SA

Maîtrise et raffinement dans l'Antiquité

A selection of rare works from Egypt to Byzantium

After two thematic exhibitions last year, Phoenix Ancient Art will showcase exclusive artworks from different cultures and periods for its first 2016 event. “Maîtrise & Raffinement dans l’Antiquité” aims to highlight the technical skills of ancient civilizations through the lens of the various materials they used (ceramic, bronze, gold, precious stones, marble, glass, etc.), and to demonstrate how refined and elegant their work was.

Beauty, sophistication and excellence will thus be presented through a wide range of masterpieces, including a graceful marble head of the goddess Aphrodite (Greek, late 2nd - early 1st century B.C., H: 25 cm), a charming bronze statuette of a Venus Anadyomene (Roman. 1st - 2nd century A.D., H (with the base): 22.2 cm), a small pendant in the shape of a seated bull, finely carved from pink crystal (Achaemenid, 6th - 5th B.C., H: 4.2 cm), or the head of a Cycladic marble “idol” tinged with timeless beauty (Greek (Cyclades), 2500 - 2400 av. J.-C., H : 13.9 cm).

This carefully selected choice of artworks invites visitors to travel through time and space around the Mediterranean Basin, from Egypt to Greece, from Ancient Rome to Byzantium.

Once again, Phoenix Ancient Art promises to offer a fascinating and aesthetic journey into the past.
